Here are links to sites with excellent information and resources on all aspects of living green.  This list is an ongoing work-in-progress, so check often!

ANIMALS

American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).  They do outstanding work for the animals and have an excellent site with information about adoption, pet care, fight animal cruelty. Their Animal Poison Control Center is second to none; they open 24 hrs a day, 365 days.  The number 888-426-4435.  Another great resource is their list of toxic and non-toxic plants.

Helping Animals Excellent site with information and resources to help animals in hundreds of ways.  Become an ‘angel’ for animals.

SaveTheReptiles.com An excellent site about reptile health, medicine, husbandry, rehabilitation, current news, and general interest topics.  Amphibian, crocodilian, lizard, snake, turtle and tortoise, insects and anarchids are all found here!  Their mission is to help spread the word of Adopt A Reptile, Save A Life!

The United States Environmental Protection Agency Has a great bulletin on Managing Pet and Wildlife Waste to Prevent Contamination of Drinking Water.

CARBON FOOTPRINT

Carbon Footprint You can calculate your carbon footprint and find lots of information about home and business carbon management such as reducing emissions.

Environmental Protection Agency household emissions calculator Another useful tool to estimate your greenhouse gas emissions and ways to reduce your energy consumption.

COSMETICS / MEDICATIONS

Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep Has an excellent cosmetic safety database.

Smart Disposal A Prescription for A Healthy Planet  They provide  resources and information about responsible medication disposal.

The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics Excellent site.  Find out what’s in your products, about companies, etc.

FOOD

GoVeg has lots of information on vegetarianism.  Go for their Vegetarian Starter Kit; it’s free!

GUIDES –  MATERIALS / PRODUCTS

Climate Counts.org Excellent site. They score the largest companies on their environmental impact to promote corporate accountability and conscious consumers.  They also have a great shopping guide rating companies carbon footprint by climate counts.

Good Guide Has a mobile application to find out what’s in 75,000 common household products.

GreenPeace Has a great pocket guide ‘Recycled Tissue and Toilet guide”.  Know your papers!

Natural Resources Defense Council Has a great Shopper’s Guide to Home Tissue Products.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta)  Has an excellent free guide Cruelty-Free Shopping Guide to help you find humane products.

Planet Green Has a Green Materials Guide to help you find green materials:  floors, windows, bathroom, insulation, kitchen, heating, wall coverings, building blocks.

Seventh Generation Has a great Guide to a Toxin-Free Home.

PESTICIDES / POISONS ON PETS

National Pesticide Information Center A great pesticide information source.

Natural Resources Defense Council They have an excellent report on Poison on Pets, the Health Hazards from Flea and Tick Products

The Center for Public Integrity They do investigative journalism in the public interest.  Check their Pets and Pesticides information.

SUSTAINABLE LIVING

David Suzuki Foundation Lots of information about what you can do to go carbon neutral.  They also have extensive Publications (reports, fact sheets, books, etc.).

Earth911 A great site with lots of references on these topics:  Paper, metal, hazardous, plastic, glass, electronics, automotive, household, garden, construction.  You can also find recycling centres by typing your zip code.

Green Facts Provides facts on health and the environment.  They have an excellent A-Z list of publications.  They cover air pollution, biodiversity, chemicals, climate change, consumer safety, disease prevention, energy, environment, food & lifestyle, phthalates, radiation & EMF, risks of new technologies and sustainable development.

Planet Friendly An excellent resource covering sustainable living, including: home & garden; food & gardening; construction & renovation; health; products & services; books, magazines; travel & recreation; transportation; events & courses; faith & spirituality; jobs & volunteering; activism; directories, portals & networks; technology; etc.
