Trees Help the Environment

Yes, trees are green; trees are life!  Without trees and plants, we and all of the Earth’s beautiful creatures would not exist.  On our path to living eco friendly, we cannot go green without trees. Trees help our environment in numerous ways. Take a moment and remember why protecting trees is vital!

Benefits of Trees

Oxygen!

Take a deep breath and be appreciative; we could not survive without trees.  One mature tree can provide enough oxygen for 10 people over a year.   Not only do they give us air, but they give us clean air by a process called respiration.   Respiration is when trees grab airborne particles and remove carbon monoxide and other pollutants.

Wildlife trees

Clean Trees

Trees have the ability to curb the damage pollution can cause; they clean air pollution.

Chemicals and pollutants can enter the soil and trees can absorb them or break them down into other forms that are less harmful.  Noise pollution can also be reduced by trees as they can act as sound barriers when planted close to homes or buildings.

Flood Protection

Trees are thirsty!  Some types of trees can drink up to more than 1,000 gallons of water per year.  This can be especially useful when flash flooding occurs.  Trees can absorb some of that water and possibly reduce some of the flood destruction by slowing down the water runoff.

Battle Erosion

Trees can help fight soil erosion.  Erosion is the removal of topsoil faster than it can be replaced and it can result in infertile soil and flooding.  Tree roots have a grip on the soil, which can help prevent erosion. The leaves also help by breaking the force from the wind and rain.

“Eating” up Carbon Dioxide

How amazing is it that a tree can use carbon dioxide?  Carbon dioxide is a major global warming offender and a tree can take hold of it in its roots, wood and leaves.  When it holds the carbon dioxide, it “stores” it as wood and not a greenhouse gas; thus, slowing down climate change.

Benefits of trees

They Cool You

You can reduce your carbon footprint by planting trees.  If you have a home, plant them around your home.  It will help you use air conditioning less or maybe not at all.  If you don’t own your own home, volunteer to plant trees on Arbor Day.  Better yet, don’t wait for Arbor Day, any day is the right day to plant a tree.  On a hot summer day, they also provide you shade and protect you from strong ultraviolet rays.

Provide Shelter

Trees provide shelter for us (the wood we use to build our homes) and for many other of Mother Nature’s wildlife.  Think of trees as wildlife trees. The trees, the forests are their homes; without them, they are homeless.

Provide Food

Trees produce and bear nuts and fruits that we and other creatures can eat to sustain life.

Give Peace

Watching trees grow, watching their leaves change and listening to the leaves move as a gentle breeze flows through the air are just a few ways that trees bring us peace, contentment and happiness.  What is good for our souls is good for the Earth because when we feel that peace, we act peaceably to those around us and our environment!

Care of the environment

Care of the environment is essential for our survival.  Love a tree! Trees connect our past and our future; the trees we plant today help us to create a better tomorrow.
