Cold weather safety is crucial when caring for pets.  Here are 10 winter pet care tips to keep pets safe in cold weather.

1. Never leave your cat or dog alone in a car during cold weather. Just like in summer, a car traps heat and in winter in traps cold.  Our companion animals can freeze to death in the cold and winter.

2.  Keep your cat indoors.  Keeping cats indoors will Read the rest of this entry »

Are Your Food Options Sustainable Choices?

You’re on a quest…a quest to eco friendly living and be more green.  That pursuit has helped you adopt new practices into your life and now you are considering how and what you eat.  A good place to start is by examining why meat diets are not really a sustainable choice and why a plant-based diet option, such as vegetarianism and veganism, may be better choices. Let’s explore the benefits of vegetarian diet.

You may be thinking…’What on earth would I eat without meat?’  ‘How can I live without meat?’ or ‘Life is too short to not eat meat.’  Indeed, life may be too short if you do not pay attention to what you are feeding yourself; it could be taxing on your body and it could be taxing on the Earth.  We need to open our eyes (WIDE) and understand the consequences our massive food consumption and poor agricultural practices are putting on the Earth.

BUT…it can change!  You can change and when you change you can enlighten others to a better choice.  And do you know what?  It is not nearly as scary as it sounds, I promise!  Read on… Read the rest of this entry »

Eco friendly living includes looking at our food choices and their environmental pollution effects, among other issues. Eating less meat, or no meat at all is one way to make a sustainable choice.

Farm animals outnumber the human population approximately three and a half to one, and meat consumption is predicted to double by the middle of the century.  The large amount of gases (methane, carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide) and bodily waste from industrial animal production facilities, or factory farms, not only contaminate drinking and ground water, but also accelerate global warming.

Carnivore (Meat Eater)

Being the T-Rex of the food chain may make you feel strong and powerful, but you may want to take a second look at your need for meat.  Factory farms are the #1 Read the rest of this entry »

Knowing how to select cat litters is important for green pets.  A natural cat litter may not necessarily mean a safe cat litter for your cat(s) or the environment.

What website would you recommend to a family getting more involved with green living? We already do basic things, like recycle, reuse, turn off lights when we don’t need them, keep the heat low, don’t run the water, etc..but it never occurred to me to wash clothes in cold water only. Where can I find more great ideas like that? Thanks!

I have several and they are geared for different levels, also some of them have many links to other sites which I find valuable but if I had to settle on one for starting out and it had to stand on it’s own with no links I like this one. It is pretty straight forward. If you want the one that is linked to almost everything and has all the info you’d ever want on recycling nothing but earth 911 the 2nd link. If you want a list here’s a list 3rd site. If you want videos the 4th site

Sorry I cheated couldn’t do just one. (It was hard enough limiting it to just these)
